About IsItPatented.ai

We help inventors and product builders answer one question fast: has someone already patented this? — before they spend $10,000+ on attorney fees and a non-provisional filing.

Why we built this

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office holds more than 11 million granted patents. Searching them by hand is brutal. Hiring an attorney to do a prior-art search costs $1,000 to $3,000 — money most early-stage inventors don’t have. The result: tens of thousands of inventors either skip the search entirely or burn months on free databases that aren’t built for novelty assessment.

IsItPatented.ai compresses that workflow to 15 seconds. You describe your invention in plain English. Our AI ingests the description, matches it against semantic claim vectors from 11.4 million USPTO records, and returns a Novelty Score with a ranked list of the closest existing patents. It is not legal advice — but it is enough to know whether to keep going or pivot.

Who runs it

IsItPatented.ai is operated by Azert LLC, an independent software studio. The editorial guides on this site are written and reviewed by the IsItPatented Editorial team — engineers and IP researchers who verify every patent claim against live USPTO records before publishing. We are not a law firm and nothing on this site is legal advice. For a binding opinion, work with a registered patent attorney.

How we make money

The free scanner is free because we earn affiliate commissions when readers convert with our partners — primarily LegalZoom for provisional filings and select boutique IP firms for full attorney engagements. Affiliate links are disclosed on every page and detailed on our Affiliate Disclosure page. We never recommend a partner we wouldn’t use ourselves.

Editorial standards

Every guide on this site cites the underlying USPTO record number where applicable. Our methodology — including the limitations of AI-driven patent screening — is published in full at /methodology. Corrections are welcome at editorial@isitpatented.ai.
