The Golf Club That Lets You Dial In Your Perfect Swing Weight
Imagine a golf club head where you can swap out the weights inside to change how the club feels and performs. This patent describes a clever hollow club with a hidden chamber that holds adjustable weighted materials—so you can customize your swing without buying a whole new club.
The plain-English version
What it protects
The claim covers a golf club head with a hollow interior cavity and an internal chamber that holds both a heavier weighted material and a lighter filler material. Both materials can be added or removed through an opening in the club's wall. What's protected here is the specific design of that adjustable weight chamber and the ability to swap materials in and out to change the club's weight distribution and balance characteristics.
Why it matters
Golf equipment is highly tuned to individual players' swings, and weight distribution dramatically affects performance. This patent gives manufacturers a way to sell a single club head that golfers can customize for themselves, rather than forcing them to buy multiple clubs or expensive custom-built options. It's a practical solution that adds value to the product and lets players dial in their equipment without returning to the shop.
Real-world use
When a golfer at the range notices their driver is feeling too heavy or too light, they could open a small port in the club head and adjust the internal weights to match their swing tempo and strength.
Original USPTO abstract
A golf club head includes a plurality of exterior walls which define a hollow interior cavity. The golf club head further includes an interior wall structure extending from one of the walls into the interior cavity. The interior wall structure defines a chamber therein. The chamber contains a flowable weighted material and a lighter weight flowable filler material. Both the weighted and the filler materials can be inserted and removed from the chamber through an aperture in the wall.
